1 Chronicles 1:18BSB·traditional attribution
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
Matthew Henry Presbyterian @wholebiblehenry
This paragraph has Adam for its first word and Abraham for its last. Between the creation of the former and the birth of the latter were 2000 years, almost the one-half of which time Adam himself lived. Adam was the common father of our flesh, Abraham the common father of the faithful.

Arphaxad begat Shelah--Cainan, the father's name, is omitted here. (See Luk 3:36).

And Arphaxad begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber. (e) Of him came the Hebrews who were later called Israelites of Israel, who was Jacob and Jews of Judah because of the excellency of that tribe.
