They only had some contentions with him regarding their own religion and a certain Jesus who had died, but whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
We have here the preparation that was made for another hearing of Paul before King Agrippa, not in order to his giving judgment upon him, but in order to his giving advice concerning him, or rather only to gratify his curiosity. Christ had said, concerning his followers, that they should be brought before governors and kings.

Verse 19. But had certain questions. Certain inquiries, or litigated and disputed subjects; certain points of dispute in which they differed. ζητηματατινα. Of their own superstition. δεισιδαιμονιας. This word properly denotes the worship or fear of demons; but was applied by the Greeks and Romans to the worship of their gods. It is the same word which is used in , where it is used in a good sense. .
