Would it be well when He examined you? Could you deceive Him as you would deceive a man?
Job here warmly expresses his resentment of the unkindness of his friends. I. He comes up with them as one that understood the matter in dispute as well as they, and did not need to be taught by them, Job 13:1, Job 13:2. They compelled him, as the Corinthians did Paul, to commend himself and his own knowledge, yet not in a way of self-applause, but of self-justification.

Is it good that he should search you out?.... That is, God; searching is ascribed to him after the manner of men; not that he is ignorant of persons or things he searches after, or exercises that application, diligence, and industry, and takes those pains which are necessary in men to find out anything; when he makes search, it is not on his own account...
Will the issue to you be good, when He searches out you and your arguments? Will you be regarded by Him as pure and disinterested? mock-- (Gal 6:7). Rather, "Can you deceive Him as one man?" &c.
