I am churning within and cannot rest; days of affliction confront me.
In this second part of Job's complaint, which is very bitter, and has a great many sorrowful accents in it, we may observe a great deal that he complains of and some little that he comforts himself with. I. Here is much that he complains of. 1. In general, it was a day of great affliction and sorrow. (1.) Affliction seized him, and surprised him.

My bowels boiled, and rested not,.... All contained within him, his heart, lungs, and liver, in a literal sense, through a violent fever burning within him; or figuratively, being under great distress and trouble, by reason of his afflictions, outward and inward, see Jer 4:19; the days of affliction prevented me; came sooner upon him than he thought; he did not expect the evil days...
bowels--regarded as the seat of deep feeling (Isa 16:11). boiled--violently heated and agitated. prevented--Old English for "unexpectedly came upon" me, "surprised" me.
