David
Psalm 36:7BSB·traditional attribution

How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings!

Psalm 36 Almost all interpreters agree in supposing, that in this psalm David in general expresses his wonder and amazement at the goodness of God, because, in the exercise of his favor and mercy, he bears with the wicked, who, notwithstanding, basely contemn him. The opinion which I have formed is somewhat different.

From the baseness of the wicked the psalmist turns his contemplation to the glory of God. Contrasts are impressive.

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God. Here we enter into the Holy of Holies. Benevolence, and mercy, and justice, are everywhere, but the excellence of that mercy only those have known whose faith has lifted the veil and passed into the brighter presence of the Lord; these behold the excellency of the Lord's mercy.
