Here we have, I. Solomon upon his throne (Kg1 4:1): So king Solomon was king, that is, he was confirmed and established king over all Israel, and not, as his successors, only over two tribes. He was a king, that is, he did the work and duty of a king, with the wisdom God had given him.

Which seems to have been in the tribe of Judah by the places that follow: to him pertained Sochoh; there were two places of this name in that tribe, Jos 15:35; and all the land of Hepher: there was an Hepher in the land of Canaan, which was a royal city in the times of the Canaanites, Jos 12:17...

1Ki 4:9 Bendeker was in Makaz, a city only mentioned here, the situation of which is unknown, but which is at any rate to be sought for in the tribe of Dan, to which the other cities of this district belong. Shaalbim has probably been preserved in the present Selbit, to the north-west of YĆ¢lo (see at Jos 19:42). Bethshemesh, the present Ain-Shems (see at Jos 15:10).
