Isaiah
Isaiah 3:13ESV·traditional attribution

The LORD has taken his place to contend; he stands to judge peoples.

John Calvin Reformed @genevareformer

13. Jehovah standeth up to plead So long as wickedness rages without control, and the Lord sends no relief from on high, we think that he is idle and has forgotten his duty. More especially, when the nobles themselves are spared, he appears to grant them liberty to commit sin, as if they were most sacred persons that must not be touched.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian @wholebiblehenry

Here God proceeds in his controversy with his people. Observe, I. The ground of his controversy. It was for sin that God contended with them; if they vex themselves, let them look a little further and they will see that they must thank themselves: Woe unto their souls! For they have rewarded evil unto themselves. Alas for their souls!

Commenting on Isaiah 3:9-15

John Gill Reformed Baptist @doctorgill

The Lord standeth up to plead,.... His own cause, or the cause of his son against the Jews that rejected him, and the Scribes and Pharisees that led them to an ill opinion of him: and standeth to judge the people.
