And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”
See here, I. With what admiration some spoke of the external pomp and magnificence of the temple, and they were some of Christ's own disciples too; and they took notice of it to him how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, Luk 21:5.
Commenting on Luke 21:5-19
But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions,.... Or seditions and tumults; "wars" may design the wars of the Romans, against the Jews; and the "commotions", or seditions, the internal troubles among themselves: be not terrified; as if the destruction of the nation, city, and temple, would be at once: for these things must first come to pass, but the end is not by and by; or "immediately".
Verse 9. Commotions. Insurrections. Subjects rising against their rulers. (g) "be not terrified"
